Solar panels are nice, but they won’t add value to your home.
Do solar panels suck, or are they a money-saving miracle? The truth is that it depends on where you live and what you want out of them. Let me explain.
I know that there are rebates and tax breaks available to lower some of the cost of solar panels, but in reality, solar panels don’t add any value to homes in our area. If you just spent $25,000 on solar panels, I’m sorry to break the news to you.
“I can tell you whether or not a project will add value to your home. ”
Solar panels will lower the cost of your monthly utility bill, but that’s about all they will do. Think about solar panels like those special windows that better insulate your home. They’re nice and help lower the bills for your home, but they won’t increase your property’s value.
In general, value is almost entirely determined by square footage and finish. If you take the $25,000 that solar panels cost and spend that money on an addition or guest house, your property’s value will definitely increase.
When you’re deciding whether or not you should spend a ton of money on a project, give me a call or shoot me a text. I’d love to go over your unique situation so you can get the most bang for your buck.
